Banjo Tobacco Label is a unique puzzle made from a 1960's art print, which I purchased at auction. This print had been professionally reproduced from a turn of the century (late 1800's/ early 1900's) advertising tobacco label. A very good example of black americana. Nice vivid colors with log cabin setting. Two ladies are dancing in the tobacco field; one man claps to the music while the other plays his banjo. Original tobacco label was first printed by David Dunlop, Petersburg, Virginia. (This reprint lithograph is nearly 40 years old as well.) Very nice way to preserve this piece of our history in my jigsaw puzzle!

There is an average of 2.5 pieces per square inch. Puzzle has been handcut from 1/4" 5-ply Finland Birch, a very strong wood that will last for generations to come! See enlarged side view below. I cut this puzzle by hand, carefully guiding the wood into the thin blade of a scroll saw, cutting off one piece at a time, using blades with a thickness of just 0.008! Measures 12 3/8" X 6 1/4"

There are 6 figurals as shown above including my "key" signature piece (signed, numbered, and dated on the back). Look carefully and notice the figure pieces are adaptations of the actual people in the art print! In addition, one of the figurals is an enhanced figural; note the interior cuts in the banjo player to provide more detail..

Puzzle was cut in my Standard Cut and is highly interlocking overall. A handful of pieces may fall out when picking up the completed puzzle, but most of it should stay together.

Pieces connect via knobs and earlets. Cut one piece at a time, no two are alike!

Puzzle comes disassembled inside the beautiful wood box with sliding lid shown below. I made this box from solid pine (sides) and 3-ply Finland Birch (lid and bottom). The outside has been finished in the lovely golden color shown below. My label is affixed to the outside of the box with the puzzle title, number, and piece count. The box measures 4 1/2" X 7 1/2" X 31/2" high.

Note: This puzzle contains small pieces which may present a choking hazard to children. It has been designed for adults or older children and is not meant for young children.
